Lenovo A1 7″ Android Tablet

Today we have some news regarding the latest tablet to come from Lenovo. They are calling this the A1 and it will be their 7″ offering in the Android tablet market. Although we have both bad, and good news regarding the Lenovo A1 we’ll share all the details below as well as plenty of pictures they were nice enough to provide.

While no official announcement has been made yet Lenovo will be bringing the A1 tablet to market coming sometime in September and what makes it stand out is the amazing price. That is part of the good and bad news. The good first, the Lenovo A1 tablet will only be $199 at launch, the bad is it will only run Android 2.3 Gingerbread — no honeycomb here. The specs are pretty impressive though and this would make a great mid-range and well priced tablet for someone on a budget.

The Lenovo IdeaPad A1 is a 7″ Android 2.3 affordable Android tablet. It will feature a Cortex A8 1.0 Ghz single-core processor, a 3 MP rear and 0.3 VGA front facing camera. Coming in at 11.9mm thin (0.46 inch), and weighing just 400g. Lenovo is using a magnesium alloy roll-cage internal frame design to keep the tablet strong, yet thin and light. The 7″ LED display will have a 1024 x 600 resolution similar to the Galaxy Tab 7 and offers a great visual experience.

As well as the usual Bluetooth, Wifi, micro SD, micro USB and stereo speakers one unique feature is it will have offline GPS and navigation with its unique chipset that will be powered by Navdroyd. Users can expect to see the device hit the shelves in September starting at $199 for the 16GB model and they will also offer a 32GB model but pricing has yet to be confirmed.

Report: Retina Display Issues Push iPad 3 Launch to 2012

Last month the CEO of LG confirmed the iPad 3 would arrive with a retina display, but the release date of the device was still up in the air. Digitimes is now reporting that the iPad 3 will not be released until 2012 due to Apple’s dissatisfaction with the Retina display of the device.

Digitimes indicates Apple has canceled the iPad 3 supply schedule for the second half of 2011, and therefore no iPad 3 will be made available until 2012:

“Apple was originally set to launch its iPad 3 in the second half of 2011 with a supply volume of 1.5-2 million units in the third quarter and 5-6 million in the fourth quarter, but Apple’s supply chain partners have recently discovered that the related figures have all already been deleted, the sources pointed out.”

The reason behind the delay is due to the belief that poor yields of the new 9.7″ 2,048 by 1,536 pixel Retina display fail to live up to Apple’s standards:

“Sources from panel players also pointed out that the 9.7-inch panel with high resolution requires a much larger backlight source and a single edge light bar is hardly able to reach satisfaction levels. Due to iPad 3′s requirements over the physical thinness, rich color support and toughness will all conflict with the panel’s technology restrictions; therefore, this could cause a delay in the launch.”

If these sources are accurate, and there’s no strong reason to believe they are not, the iPad 3 will more than likely be released around the same date as the iPad 1 and iPad 2.

iPad 3 Update, Rumor Roundup, and More

It’s no secret that the iPad 3 is in the works by Apple, but it does seem that Apple is trying to keep almost every other aspect of it secret. Because countless rumors have been spread and leaked, it is nearly impossible to predict what features the iPad 3 will actually hold.

One of the most popular rumors state that it will boost 4G LTE compatibility. This, of course, would only be available for Verizon users. Yet another says that the iPad 3 may even be the first real 3D tablet, in which case Apple will probably use similar technology to the HTC Evo 3D. This will be highly improbable, though, due to Apple already having trouble with retina display.

One thing that is constantly changing for this upcoming Apple device is the release date. Originally, the iPad 3 was thought to be released simultaneously with the iPhone 4S/5, but this theory has been confirmed as incorrect. Since then, it has been delayed and scheduled to be released in early 2012.

Some people fear for the future of this project and Apple itself after Steve Jobs resigned from his position as CEO of Apple, but he will still serve as chairman for the company, overlooking the iPad 3 and making sure it stays true to it’s original design. Since leaving his prime spot in the company, the Apple stock has dropped, illustrating just how powerful Steve Jobs was. New CEO, Tim Cook, may not be as iconic or recognizable, but if the iPad 3 is successful, he could very well be the new face of Apple. Experts say he should have the skills to lead Apple just as well, if not better, than Steve Jobs, but only time will tell how big of an impact he will have on the company.

We are still quite far from the unveiling and actual release of the iPad 3, and until then, we can only dream of what features it may bring to the table. Retina display has already been confirmed, so it may just be a matter of time before more features are confirmed, and we slowly piece it together.

New Nokia E6 & X7 with Symbian Anna

Nokia today announced two new Symbian devices, the Nokia E6 and the Nokia X7. With the new smartphones, Nokia also introduced its latest software update, known as Symbian Anna.

Inspired by Nokia’s new design philosophy, Symbian Anna delivers a new and unique user experience which makes the family of Symbian-based devices more exciting for consumers and the business opportunity with Nokia even better for developers, as these devices also power apps developed with Qt.

New software update – Symbian Anna

While the transition to Windows Phone continues, Nokia will carry on shipping smartphones based on Symbian. Nokia plans to ship 150 million Symbian devices in addition to its existing installed base of 200 million Symbian devices including 100 million Qt-enabled devices, 75 million of which are touchscreen devices.

Symbian Anna includes new, fresh icons and usability enhancements (including split-screen view while typing); faster and easier to use browser; virtual portrait QWERTY for fast typing; and refreshed Ovi Maps with simpler and quicker search as well as new public transportation routes. Both the Nokia X7 and Nokia E6 come equipped with Symbian Anna. Two new Symbian devices announced

The new Nokia E6 is a compact QWERTY and touch-enabled smartphone, ideal for getting things done in all fronts of life: work, home, friends, travel and more.

The Nokia E6 includes an extremely sharp VGA display, and has a capacitive interface and supports pinch-to-zoom. The device has an ARM1176 680MHz processor with Broadcom graphics accelerator (BCM2727), and includes an Ambient Light Sensor, Magnetometer (Compass), Orientation sensor and a Proximity sensor. The Nokia E6 has 8GB of built-in mass memory and support for 32GB on a microSd card; the available device user memory (C:\) is approximately 350MB. The Nokia E6 has 256MB RAM and 1024MB ROM, improved with dynamic data management.

The Nokia E6 seamlessly integrates applications and services, such as receiving, editing and sending documents on the go, sharing images via social media channels, navigating with Ovi Maps and finding near-by services, and more. The Nokia E6 also includes the best Microsoft messaging experience on a business smartphone, including Mail for Exchange, Communicator Mobile and SharePoint access. The Nokia X7 includes a 680MHz processor, with additional graphics accelerator (Integrated Video Engine). Symbian isn’t open source, just ‘open for business’

Symbian is no longer open source, according to Nokia, and the source code is only going to be available to a number of select collaborators. Apparently, Nokia has received more than a few inquiries as to what it means by “open” and “open source,” so it decided to clarify that today.

Nokia says on it site:

As we have consistently said, Nokia is making the Symbian platform available under an alternative, open and direct model, to enable us to continue working with the remaining Japanese OEMs and the relatively small community of platform development collaborators we are already working with.

The company says it’s also keeping a close eye on those who are registering for the platform and is being more selective on approving those with whom Nokia will collaborate.

Symbian fans worried last fall that the foundation would be completely shut down and that any further innovation would come to a halt. In December, the Symbian Foundation did close up shop on its website and Nokia ended up picking up where it left off.

On April 12, Nokia will be holding a special Symbian event, so we’re all pretty curious to see what’s in store for the platform and whether this move to limit itself to a small group of select collaborators will pay off
